Welcome - Overview
At the School of Business, all first year students get a unique
opportunity to put a real-world spin on what they are learning right
away. In the Integrated Business Case, which forms a key part of the
first term curriculum, groups create and develop a business idea,
then apply skills learned in all their first semester business
courses to plan, organize, lead, and control their businesses. At
the end of the term, the best teams from each class present their
projects to compete for first place honours.
Instructor Linda Cross says, “The IBC program is designed to
develop the critical employability skills outlined by the Conference
Board of Canada – teamwork, communication, critical thinking and
change management – and to give students a real understanding of
what it is like to run a business. It’s hard work, but it pays
off.”
First year Business Administration student Kate Hanson would
agree. As a member of the first place team, she was chosen to
accompany Linda and Instructor Erwin Schwartz to Austin, Texas,
where Linda received a National Institute for Staff and
Organizational Development (NISOD) 2005 Excellence Award for her
work in developing the IBC program. |
